Stretching out along a great arc of sunny coastline from Mirissa to Kirinda, there are some of the best-known Sri Lankan beaches including Jungle Beach, Unawatuna, Weligama, Mirissa, Tallala, and Tangalle. One of the greatest attractions of the South Coast cruises is the opportunity to experience the world’s largest Mammal, the Blue Whale, along with many other species of whales and dolphins. Onshore visits include the UNESCO world heritage city of Galle Fort, the ancient Dondra Lighthouse at the southernmost point of Sri Lanka as well as turtle and migrant bird conservation projects. Welcome on board and make yourself comfortable on The Ocean Diamond. Embarkation takes place at 2PM from Mirissa Harbour and we head for Jungle Beach in Galle. Once anchored you can take a rib to the beach and the crew will happily arrange for an optional shore excursion, exploring the UNESCO world heritage Galle Fort. The colonial Dutch star fort with amazing architecture and centuries of history, or get lost in the streets of little shops, cafes and museums. From the beach you can visit Rumassala Temple which adorns the headland, nestled in between the tropical lush coconut trees, this can be arranged on request. Dinner will be served while at anchor in Jungle Bay where we will spend the night at anchorage.
Anchor up for early departure to set sail towards Beruwala is the ideal chance to take in the stunning scenery while enjoying your breakfast. On arrival to Beruwala it might be possible for a swim, where you can relax and experience some aquatic activities such as stand-up paddle boarding and snorkelling. After lunch we will be welcoming new guests on board at 2PM. Once all aboard your captain will set sail towards the picturesque Beruwala Lighthouse Island. Dinner shall be served on board at Beruwala Lighthouse anchorage.
This morning while you enjoy breakfast, we set out on a voyage towards the coast of Dondra, the most southern point of Sri Lanka. It is here where you must watch out for turtles, playful dolphins and a number of different species of whales, including the largest mammal the blue whale, who are also resident in the waters. Another tasty lunch will be served while new guests will board and some will disembark by 2PM. You have another chance to encounter more whales en-route to Talalla, followed by a refreshing swim and paddle boarding exploring. Dining on board at anchor, off the stunning Talalla Beach.
Experience the beautiful sunrise followed by breakfast with fellow guests. During this relaxating morning you can soak up some of that tropical sunshine and try your hand at water activities. Optionally, it can be arranged on request to visit the fishing village at Mawella Beach, taking in the local culture and customs of the area. Lunch will be served on board and new arrivals will board by 2PM. Once all on board, you have the option to go ashore and explore the local village of Kalametiya and visit the Bird Sanctuary. Dinner will be enjoyed at anchor at Kalametiya.
Today the Captain sets sail towards Hambantota. Breakfast served while underway to view the Hummanaya Blow Hole, believed to be the second largest blowhole in the world, spraying up to 25m on a good day. Lunch will be served on arrival to Hambantota Harbour and new guests join the cruise. After your swim in the warm waters along the coast of Kirinda, dinner will be served on board under the nights sky where you spend the peaceful night on anchor at Kirinda.
Rise and shine to enjoy breakfast on board while sailing to explore the tropical coastline. Enjoy the sea breeze and sunshine, or simply lounge on deck reading a book. An optional “Yala Safari Tour” can be arranged with early request to our crew. You will be served a delicious lunch while new guests are boarding. Here you can also enjoy a lovely swim at Mawella Bay followed by dinner. Anchorage today will be at Mawella Bay.
Enjoy your breakfast as we depart from Mawella Bay. Our new heading is for Mirissa, a good passage to spot marine wildlife, especially whales, dolphins and sea turtles in the beautiful waters. Lunch will be served as we make our way toward Mirissa Harbour. On arrival to Mirissa Harbour, it is the last stop and time to disembark from The Ocean Diamond.
